How Long Does Peyronie’s Disease Last?
One of the first questions a man asks when he notices penile curvature is: how long will this last?
Will it go away on its own? Will it get worse? Will it stay this way forever?
The answer is not the same for everyone. Peyronie’s disease progresses through different stages, and these stages largely determine how long the condition may last and how it may develop over time.
First Stage – Active (Acute) Phase
This is the period when changes are actively occurring.
During this phase, plaque (scar tissue) forms, the curvature may increase, and erections are often painful.
The acute phase usually lasts between 6 and 18 months.
For some men, it may be shorter, while for others it may last longer. During this period, the condition has not yet stabilized, and changes may occur from month to month.
Second Stage – Stable Phase
After some time, the pain usually decreases or disappears completely.
However, the curvature remains.
The plaque no longer increases in size, but in most cases it does not go away on its own.
This phase can last for years if no action is taken.
Can Peyronie’s Disease Go Away on Its Own?
In milder cases, minor damage may improve over time.
However, in more serious cases, the curvature usually remains.
The longer the condition persists, the greater the likelihood that it will become permanent.
When Should You Be Seriously Concerned?
- if the pain lasts for months
- if the curvature continues to increase
- if sexual intercourse becomes difficult or impossible
- if you develop problems with erections
Ignoring the problem does not mean it will go away. In most cases, without intervention, the condition progresses into the stable phase and the curvature may become permanent.
How Long Does the Entire Process Last?
Realistically:
- Acute phase: 6–18 months
- Stable phase: may last for years
In some men, the condition may become permanent if no action is taken.
That is why it is important to understand which stage you are in.
